EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
“Through sculptures, photographs, sound recordings and collected objects, Merouche presents in this first solo exhibition a work that borrows elements from the imaginary of the sea and insular geographies to question his personal experience living in the city of Algiers.
In this work, the artist traces the journey of a character navigating an archipelago where dry land and refuges nestle in a sea imbued with the notion of isolation and impediment. A personal reconciliation with a topography of social marginality that he occupied in Algiers, where spaces of communion and resilience must constantly reinvent themselves to survive within an urban fabric criss-crossed by complex strata of prohibitions and authority.”
